"Naddar Began his career at Walchand Group's Cooper Engineering in Pune in 1967. He soon gave it up to begin his own venture, in partnerships with several friends and colleagues. These partners were Ajai Chowdhry ( Ex- Chairman, HCL Infosystem ), Arjun Malhotra ( CEO and Chairman, Headstrong), Subhas Arora, Yogesh Vaidya, S. Raman, Mahendra Pratap and DS Puri. The initial enterprise which Nadar and his partners began was Microcamp, a company which focused on selling teledigital calculators in the India market. HCL was founded later, in 1976 , with an investment of Rs. 187,000. "


UNKNOWN FACTS : 

1. Acknowledged as a visionary in the field of IT sector, Shiv Nadar, Chairman & Chief Strategy officer of HCL Technology is the only Indian to establish computer systems industry in India.

2. He Kick started his career as an engineer in DCM's calculator division., He along with his existing board members started Micro comp to sell teledigital calculators under the brand name 'Televista'.

3. Fondaly known as 'Magus' ( Old person for wizard) among his friends he transformed HCL, at a times when India had a total of 250 computers, into one of the top most firms creating computers and office equipment's.

4. HCL was established with an initial investment of Rs. 187.000 and subsumed the Uttar Pradesh government as a 26 % equity partner. With a team of six members which passionately believed in the future of IT industry, Nadar started making computers in his garage and HCL came out with its first PC in 1982. From designing India's first PC at the same time as a global IT peers in 1978, to working on the Boeing Dreamliner's flight management system now, HCL has stayed a true pioneer of Modern computing. 

5. In 1980, HCL ventured into the international market with the opening of Far East Computers in Singapore to sell IT hardware. THe Venture reported Rs 1. Million revenue in the first year and continued to address the Singapore operations. Nadar remained the largest shareholder without retaining any management control.

6. Nadar later consolidated his business into 5 entities namely HCL Technologies( global IT service company), HCL Infosystem ( Indian IT hardware leader), HCL comnet ( network services company), HCL Perot ( IT application ) and NIIT ( Education Services). By 2004 the number of Companies in HCL was consolidated from five to two. HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystem). 

7. The HCL team companies over 80.000 professional of diverse nationalities, who operate from 31 countries including over 500 points of presence in India. It has global tie-ups with several leading Fortune 1000 firms, including leading IT and Technology firms.

8. Albeit a more recent entrant in the software services space. HCL is already among the top Indian IT software majors and a force to reckon with for global technology giants. HCL's range of offerings spans product engineering, custom & package applications, BPO, IT Infrastructure Services, IT Hardware, Systems Integration along with distribution of ICT (Information Communications Technology) products. Now over 80 % of HCL's revenues are from computers and office equipment . In 2007, Nadar passed the mantle of CEO of HCL Technology to Vineet Nayar through he remains the Chairman of HCL Technologies and its largest shareholder.

9. In 2009, Forbes Magazine featured him in its list of '48 Heroes of Philanthropy ' in the Asia Pacific region with personal wealth of USD 5.6 billion . In 2005 he received the 'CNBC Business Excellence' award from the Prime Minister of India. He was conferred the Padam Bhushan for his contribution to trade & industry and for his deep commitment to public life.

10. A hardcore philanthropist , Nadar at the age of 53 quietly continues to support many critical social causes through the Shiv Nadar Foundation that focuses on elevating the educational system of India. He is also building " VidyGyan" public schools in Uttar Pradesh that will provide free, world class education to rural children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

11. With success knowing no limits, Nadar attributes his fame to teamwork and the entrepreneurial spirit, which together have enabled to transform risks into opportunities to handle the ever changing environments and technologies.
